Domestic Renewable Heat Incentive calculator
ACE Research, in partnership with the Energy Saving Trust and Solstice Associates developed a Renewable Heat Incentive calculator for DECC and the Scottish Government. The tool was designed to provide a reliable estimate of the domestic RHI payments for biomass systems, ground and air source heat pumps and solar thermal systems.
There are two ways of estimating RHI payments using the calculator:
- If the user has access to a recent Energy Performance Certificate (EPC), they can enter the space heating and hot water demand figures directly into the calculator. The calculator then uses these figures to estimated RHI payments for that home.
- If the user does not have access to a recent EPC, they can answer a few question about their home (house type, number of bedrooms, approximate age etc…) and the Dynamic Engine* will use this information to make a rough estimate of the home’s heating and hot water demands. The RHI calculator then uses the Dynamic Engine’s heat demand figures to estimate the potential RHI payments available for that home.
The calculator can be found at: https://www.gov.uk/renewable-heat-incentive-calculator
The DECC Press release (30th July 2014) on the release of the calculator can be found at: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/calculator-shows-how-renewable-heating-adds-up
The tool was updated on the 20th September 2017 to reflect the new ‘heat demand limits’, which limit the amount of RHI payments made to properties with a larger heat demand.
For more details see the Government’s response to the RHI consultation, which can be viewed here.
