DECC Consultation: The role of appliances and consumer electronics in CERT

ACE has submitted a written response to DECC’s sonsultation on The role of appliances and consumer electronics in CERT.

Response Summary

ACE broadly agrees, with one addition and one extension, with the principles for CERT laid out in the consultation against which a measure’s eligibility should be assessed.

ACE has no evidence to support the continued inclusion of the list appliances and consumer electronics based on the principles and in light of the current market and scheme of minimum standards and product labelling initiatives that are currently in place or are proposed. Initiatives like the Market Transformation Programme and the ‘EST recommended’ labelling scheme are the more appropriate schemes in which to promote these valuable energy saving programmes and, if necessary, these schemes should be strengthened to promote these products.

Therefore, ACE feels that to legislate to enable the removal of any measures for which evidence that it meets the principles of the scheme cannot be produced, is the most decisive, transparent and simple solution.
