Calor wanted to provide their rural customers with an online energy efficiency tool which was bespoke to rural housing types, fuels, and took into account rural specific considerations. The tool forms part of Calor’s Corporate Social Responsibility activity, helping their customers understand and manage their energy consumption more effectively.
In addition the tool acts as a showcase for Calor products, providing information about Calor LPG boiler systems.

The Client’s experience
As part of our Corporate Social responsibility activity, Calor wanted to provide our rural customers with an online home energy efficiency tool which was bespoke to rural housing types, fuels, and took into account rural specific considerations – such as conservation zones. We really liked the Home Energy Check tool on the Energy Saving Trust website. It has a credible brand and is trusted by consumers, however it needed some changes to make it rural specific, as per our requirements.
For our tool, we wanted a reliable online calculator which would give users an idea of their existing energy consumption, and options for improvements. We wanted consumers to have a choice in whether they wanted to prioritise saving money, carbon or improving their EPC rating as we know all three are important to our customers. We also were keen on the additional practical information provided in the tool to help consumers make an informed choice. We know that whilst cost is a major factor, there are other factors, for example the level of disruption, which must be considered too.
We added in an option to refer customers onto Calor if they wanted more information about the products and services that Calor provides. This meant that the tool could also act as a lead generator for our business, bringing additional benefits.
In terms of getting the tool up and running, the process was very smooth. The teams at the EST, Solstice and ACE were excellent in quickly understanding our requirements and tailoring the tool to suit our needs. We had a specific ‘go-live’ date to tie in with a national sustainability campaign, therefore the Calor HEC had to be ready by a specific date. The tool was delivered in good time for this date, and there were no major issues or problems in the scoping, design, testing or delivery phase.
The tool is promoted to our customers via a variety of means including statement inserts, posters and on our website. We are very happy with the functionality, design and performance of the tool and it is certainly fulfilling its purpose as positioning Calor as a responsible energy supplier, keen to help our customers, and indeed all rural residents, understand and manage their energy consumption more effectively.
